Pounded Yam is a popular African dish similar to mashed potatoes but heavier. Pounded Yam is very smooth and tasty. It is often eaten with vegetable soup. Pounded Yam is a staple in many West African homes, it is often paired with many delicious African soups, and stews like Egusi, okra soup, Jute leaves soup (Ewedu), or Stewed Spinach (Efo Riro).

How to prepare:

Mix 6 tablespoons of poundo flour with half cup of water to form a light mixture.

Combine the flour mixture with 2 cups water in a medium pot; bring to the boil,

Pour pounded yam flour into boiling water;  reduce heat; stir constantly with a wooden spoon till it starts to forms a solid mass or lump.

While stirring, add leftover ¼  to ¾ cup of water; and poke holes to let steam escape and cook the flour; stirring until all water evaporates and it forms a solid lump. (The lump should not be too soft or too hard, but stretchy to touch)

Serve with your favorite soup

METHOD 2

 

Skip the mixing flour with water step and just pour the pounded yam flour straight into the boiling water. Mixing thoroughly until it forms a solid lump or a required texture.
